Literacy Night was on March 21 from 5-6: 30 pm in the Theodore Vick MPR and library. The theme was superheroes. We had a children’s author reading her books to families in the library and next door in the computer lab parents were taking the Title 1 survey. The stations in the MPR included: write a super comic strip, make a superhero mask, super words where students break words apart and build new ones in Spanish and English, PTO booth, Smack Attack where students smacked sight words with a fly swatter when they were read, a reading nook for students and parents to read and a reading pledge for students and parents to fill out, snack-popcorn, and a free book of the student’s choice on the way out the door. We had approximately 100 people attend and all had a wonderful time. We followed up after the event and gave a free book to any student who did not attend.
