The Rotary Club of Adelanto recognizes two Adelanto Elementary School District students, one on the third Wednesday and one on the fourth Wednesday of each month, throughout the school year. The students must meet at least one of the following criteria in order to be nominated for the S.T.A.R. award, "Striving To Achieve Results":
- Improvement in GPA
- Improvement in Attitude
- Improvement in Attendance
On Wednesday, April 25, 2018 Jussto Stanfield, a 1st grade student at Eagle Ranch Elementary School, was presented with the Rotary Club’s S.T.A.R. award and a gift card at the Rotary Club of Adelanto luncheon. The student is also asked what they want to be when they grow up; Jussto answered that he would like to be a police officer.
Mrs. Wiley, Jussto’s teacher, wrote the following introduction that was read at the Rotary Club’s meeting:
“Jussto has improved greatly with his attitude about school, working with peers, and academics. Jussto has improved his reading ability from 0.2 in August to 2.0 or second grade in April. In Math he tested at the beginning of first grade or 1.0 and now in April he is at 1.9. His behavior in the classroom has turned around tremendously. He was unable to sit still, focus, complete work assignments, or leave other children alone. He is now focusing on lessons, completing his course work and playing well with his peers. He is now a model student that I often use when explaining proper behavior. It is my honor to recommend Jussto for the Rotary Club Student Award.”
