Wednesday, April 20, 2016 the Family Engagement Center at Columbia Middle School concluded a very successful parent program for the 2015 – 2016 school year with a celebration that included certificates of participation and a potluck with many delicious dishes prepared by the parents.
The 12 week program was attended by over 100 parents and community members who benefitted from the free classes at the Family Engagement Center. The classes included a nutrition class where parents learned how to make healthy and informed food choices; a family class where parents learned strategies on how to communicate with their family members. Other classes facilitated parents in ways to help their children with their Common Core homework, learn about the components of the computer and basic computer functions, and parents and community members began the journey of learning how to speak, read, and write in English. The classes received many accolades from our community and left the parents wanting more.
This fall the Family Engagement Center will continue to provide our parents with a safe environment where they can continue to be life long learners.
