Learning For All!

Learning For All!
Even before the first day of school for our students, AESD staff members were busy learning!

During the end of July, all school site Administrators and Classified Management participated in a Leadership mini-conference presented by our Superintendent and Cabinet members. Our district leaders were introduced to this year’s theme and focus of Keys to Excellence by Superintendent, Dr. Edwin Gomez. Our leaders participated in team building exercises and communication strategies as we discussed the 4 Keys- effective instruction, high expectations, marketing the message, and college readiness for all. district leaders also spent a day working with Doug Luffborough, a dynamic speaker who worked his way from homelessness to Harvard. His message of resiliency, hard work, and the power of having positive adult influences resonated with our leaders.

Our teachers also had a full day of learning before their first students entered their classrooms. On August 10, all of our AESD teachers participated in a district-wide Professional Development day. Teachers attended two morning sessions in grade level/content area groups. They reviewed the core ELA and Math curriculum and expanded their knowledge of differentiation and engagement strategies. In the afternoon, the teachers participated in large group trainings. Two of our own AESD teachers, Monica Cooper and Lisa Sandberg, led the K-6 grade teachers through activities rooted in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) while our 7 & 8 grade teachers learned about AR 360, a new component of the Accelerated Reader program which we use district wide.

We are all ready for the 2015-16 school year and are looking forward to making it a year of excellence!
