On Wednesday, August 23, 2017 Eva Zimmerman, an 8th grade student at El Mirage School, was presented with the Rotary Club’s S.T.A.R. award and a gift card at their luncheon. The student is also asked what they want to be when they grow up; Eva answered that she is considering becoming a video game designer.
Ms. Durgin, Eva’s teacher wrote the following introduction that was read at the Rotary Club’s meeting:
“Eva has made tremendous strides in the area of reading. Her reading level has steadily increased over the last year. She went from not taking any AR tests at the beginning of last school year to achieving over 100% of her goal by the end of the school year. Her positive attitude has helped her to persevere in spite of any setbacks she experienced. She is well on her way to achieving grade level proficiency and has the potential to go beyond that.”
