The students must meet at least one of the following criteria in order to be nominated for the S.T.A.R. award, "Striving To Achieve Results":

  • Improvement in GPA
  • Improvement in Attitude
  • Improvement in Attendance

On Wednesday, January 18, 2017 Arianna Boyd, a 5th grade student at Victoria Magathan Elementary School, was presented with the Rotary Club’s S.T.A.R. award and a gift card at their luncheon. The student is also asked what they want to be when they grow up; Arianna answered that she wants to be a veterinarian.

Mr. Chow, Arianna’s teacher wrote the following introduction that was read at the Rotary Club’s meeting:

"Arianna has a positive learning attitude.  Academically, she has improved steadily.  She has improved her STAR reading level to 5.7 and she achieved level 7.1 in math.  She displays her leadership while working with other students in study groups.  Arianna is well-deserved for the S.T.A.R. Award nomination."
