Update on Desert Trails Charter Petition

January 5, 2016 – Adelanto Elementary School District was made aware that Desert Trails Preparatory Academy submitted a non-renewal charter school petition appeal to the San Bernardino County Board of Education. (Click to see attached letter)

January 15, 2016 – In an effort to continue working with Desert Trails Preparatory Academy and as follow up to our December 9, 2015 letter to DTPA, our legal team sent a letter to DTPA’s legal team regarding the items which would need to be addressed so we could reach an agreement on terms for a material revision to the charter extension and facilities use agreement. February 1, 2016 – The San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools (SBCSS) Board held a Public Hearing for Desert Trails Preparatory Academy’s charter appeal due to the non-renewal denial by Adelanto Elementary School District. (Click to see attached SBCSS Charter Appeal policy)

February 12, 2016 – The legal team of DTPA responded to our request for material revisions with the following letter. (Click to see the attached letter)

February 28, 2016 - The San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools Charter Advisory Committee researched and created a Staff Report to help guide the County Board of Education in making their decision. (Click to see the attached Staff Report)

March 3, 2016 – In response to the February 12, 2016 letter from DTPA’s legal team, AESD is no longer amenable or interested in negotiating a material revision to the DTPA Charter. We will continue to remain in communication with the San Bernardino County of Education in regards to DTPA’s appeal to the County. (Click to see the attached letter)

March 7, 2016 – San Bernardino County of Education (SBCOE) Board members voted 3-2 to grant the charter renewal appeal to Desert Trails Preparatory Academy. The County now has oversight over DTPA for the term of the charter renewal from July 2016 – June 2021.
