Leadership Training

AESD’s mission is “To prepare every student to be successful in high school, in college, in career, and in the 21st century global community.” To accomplish our mission, all of AESD’s instructional leaders, both Certificated Management and Classified Management, along with all of our teachers engaged in sharpening our skills with professional development this summer.
Our Site Administrators and Management leaders participated in a 3 day Leadership mini-conference from July 27-29. This year’s theme was “Hacking into Effective Education in AESD”. We spent 3 days reading and making plans to implement the “Hacking Leadership” strategies by Joe Sanfelippo and Tony Sinanis. Time was also spent creating a collaborative culture with our Classified and Certificated leaders. We had some friendly competition and a myriad of opportunities for educational discourse.
On August 8, our teachers participated in a day of professional development. Our Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten teachers attended two sessions led by former California Kindergarten Association president and veteran local and international presenter, Debra Weller. Our First through Eighth grade teachers attended two sessions from a list of ten topics. The topics ranged from grade level specific exploration of writing with the Core materials to instructional strategies, instructional technologies, and strategies to understand the effects of cultural poverty and address students with challenging behaviors. The presenters for the ten topics were AESD’s Coordinators of Curriculum, Site Administrators, and SBCSS presenters.
We are excited for the 2016-17 school year as we continue working towards making our vision of becoming “the High Desert’s premier learning establishment where dreams are awakened, academic achievement soars, and integrity leads the way to future success” a reality for all of our stakeholders!
