The Adelanto School District has been working with the Adelanto Police Department to develop a more comprehensive screening process to enable parents and community members to volunteer at schools while better ensuring the safety of its students. School Superintendent, Darin Brawley, said about the process, “We greatly appreciate the Adelanto Police Department and could not have implemented our plan without its dedication and support.”
On September 6, 2011, the Board of Education spearheaded the effort toward the district’s expanded safety measures and is reported by Brawley as being “grateful for the invaluable service volunteers give to our students and schools. Each trustee credits our volunteers with playing a pivotal role in helping us achieve excellence in education.”
In order to conduct more accurate background checks using both local law enforcement and the Department of Justice’s databases, the district and the Adelanto Police Department are joining together to use the Live Scan Fingerprinting system to screen all prospective volunteers. Parent volunteers will be screened at no charge. All costs will be paid by the district from designated Parent Involvement Funds.
Volunteers are requested to call Mrs. Lorena Socarras at the district office at 760-246-8691, ext. 0 to schedule their Live Scan Fingerprinting appointment at the Adelanto Police Department, 11613 Bartlett Avenue, Adelanto. Mrs. Socarras will need the volunteer’s name and the name of the school chosen for volunteer work. Volunteers will be supplied with a Live Scan Request Form that must be completed prior to and submitted during the scheduled time of the appointment for Live Scan Fingerprinting.
