All AESD Schools and AESD District Offices will remain CLOSED through the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. With the exception of our upcoming Spring Break next week from April 6-10, we will continue to provide free student meals to all children under the age of 18 from 11 - 12:30 pm daily at the following 4 locations: Adelanto Elementary, George, Morgan Kincaid, and Ted Vick. Meals will be “grab and go” using a drive through style hand off. Walk ups are welcomed too. (***For locations for FREE meals pcik up while we are on Spring Break, look at the news article on the front page of our website***) With the exception of Spring Break, AESD has created weekly resources for your child to maintain their academic skills during our school closure. You may access the materials by picking up a weekly paper packet at our district office lobby area from 10 - 2 pm or click on the top tab labeled "Education Opportunities on our website". There will be no weekly learning packets during Spring Break.
The beginning of the year always holds such excitement and promise, and for us it is an annual rite of passage where we open our doors and share with you our hopes and dreams for the coming year. I speak for all Columbia staff when I say, what a privilege it is to serve you, the Columbia community, where anything is possible, and the sky’s the limit - especially if you’re a Viper!
This is the time of year when we identify our goals and determine how we will spend our time, energy, and resources in the service of our students. Our teachers and our school Site Council will be working on our official Site Plan. We will be holding elections for our school site council, if you are interested please contact the office.
First and foremost, Columbia is a place where we build relationship and create a sense of belonging for all our students. Last year, we focused on the trait of mindfulness in order to develop traits such as empathy, focus, and conflict resolution.
Our foundational vision is that Columbia is a place where all students make academic growth. Building relationships and creating a sense of belonging. Creating experiences where students engage in solving authentic and challenging problems.
I hope you will return again on Thursday, August 27th form 5-7 pm, for Columbia's back to School Night!!
Richard C. Upshaw, Proud Columbia Principal
