Proposition 28 Arts and Music in Schools

What is Prop 28 Arts and Music in Schools?

Proposition 28 (Prop 28), also known as Arts and Music in Schools Funding (AMS), passed by California voters, aims to supplement arts education and promote "more arts for more kids." Adelanto Elementary School District (AESD) is committed to this vision, striving to build and expand robust arts programs across all grade levels.

How can Prop 28 funds be utilized by Adelanto Elementary School District?

According to the California Department of Education (CDE), Prop 28 provides annual funding for arts education programs, staffing, support, materials, partnership programs, and administrative costs aimed at enhancing arts education. The state has stipulated that at least 80 percent of AMS funds expended by the LEA should be used to employ certificated or classified employees to provide arts education program instruction. Students be under the immediate supervision and control of a certificated employee. The remaining 20% will be used for equipment, supplies, training, materials, and/or arts educational partnership programs.

Arts education program" includes (but is not limited to) instruction and training, supplies, materials, and arts educational partnership programs for instruction in dance, media arts, music, theatre, and visual arts including folk art, painting, sculpture, photography, craft arts, creative expression including graphic arts and design, computer coding, animation, music composition, ensembles, script writing, costume design, film, and video.

How will schools use utilized the Prop 28 funds?

Adelanto Elementary School District schools will receive AMS funding in addition to regular allocations outlines in their School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA).  This combined allocation empowers schools to develop implementation plans tailored to their unique needs and community context.

AMS maximizes flexibility in spending for schools. Planning is currently focused on the inclusion of new arts classes and experiences, for example, schools could offer new dance classes as an elective.

Each school is developing implementation plans, utilizing their AMS funding alongside existing funding to support and grow arts education in alignment with their own plan. If you have suggestions or any questions, please reach out to the school administrator.
