PFT Fitness
The California Physical Fitness Test (PFT) is a health-related assessment—specifically the FITNESSGRAM®—mandated for all public school students in grades five, seven, and nine. The test typically evaluates five key areas: aerobic capacity, abdominal strength, trunk extensor strength, upper body strength, and flexibility, with the goal of encouraging lifelong physical activity. While students previously aimed for the "Healthy Fitness Zone," recent state legislation has updated the process to focus on participation and providing individual results to students and families to monitor their overall fitness.
